Arranging a list
Contact the rooms with:
- the facility, date and session time
- the types of procedure and expected duration
- the approximate number of patients
- any patients you already know to be higher risk
- any special requirements, such as regional anaesthesia for postoperative pain
- the contact person for the list.
Pre-anaesthetic assessment
Each patient is assessed before their anaesthetic, in line with ANZCA’s guideline on pre-anaesthesia consultation (PG07). Early notice of significant comorbidities, anticoagulation, insulin-treated diabetes, obstructive sleep apnoea, and GLP-1 receptor agonist medicines (which have specific Australian peri-procedural recommendations) allows time to optimise patients and to plan the safest setting. Where a patient’s risk changes the plan, this is discussed with you before the day.
Billing and informed financial consent
Patients are billed for the anaesthetic separately from surgical and facility fees. Before a planned procedure, patients receive information about the anaesthetic fee and their likely out-of-pocket cost, consistent with the Medical Board’s code of conduct and ANZCA’s guidance on consent. Fees are not published on this website.
Patient information
Patients can be referred to our guides on preparing for anaesthesia, what to expect and after the anaesthetic. Please do not send patient details through the website enquiry form.
